Scope of sociology of education

EMILE DURKHEIM (1858-1917),Who is regarded as ''father of sociology of education' define sociological of education as a '' a systematic study sociological perspective.'' The term 'social perspective' stresses the social context in which people live such as society. In which 'society' is a group of people who share a certain culture and a territory and "PERSPECTIVE" is view of the world  and it is refereed to us social imagination.

SCOPE:- The scope of sociology of education is vast.it includes:-

  1.  General concepts :- such as study about society itself, culture, community and environment etc.
  2. Analysis of educational situations:- such  as how well educational institute achieve its objectives.
  3. Effectiveness educational methods:- such as which method e.g lecture method,discussions method  etc is appropriate while delivering a lecture.
  4. Effect of social agencies:- NGOs and welfare societies.
  5. Study of Relationship:-e.g for which way society influences the education.
  6. Effect of economy:- e.g standard of education provided by school or Government.
  7. Role & structure of school:- e.g (role of school environment in character building of students.
  8. Social problems:e.g racism , gender discrimination etc.
  9. Encouragement to critical thinking & investigation. :- e.g scientific outlook.
  10. Mutual relations of teachers& investigation.
  11. Place of teacher in the society.
  12. Important modification int the curriculum.
